College of DuPage: 50 Years of Stories – “News Travels Fast” (Ep. 5)

[MUSIC PLAYING] One of my favorite stories is
that when my wife was pregnant, we went to the Hinsdale
Hospital to give birth and I didn’t tell anybody
we were going there. But just before we were
going into the delivery room, the nurse said, are
you Allan Carter? And I said yes. She said, you have a phone call. I got on the phone
and it was a man who taught business law
here, Marvin Siegel. And he said, did you
have the baby yet? I said, Marvin, how
do you know I’m here? He said, well, I
called the house and there was no answer, so I
figured you had to be there. I said, Marvin,
I’ll call you back. We’re going in now. And we went and had my son. I might mention at
10 pound, 6 ounces. And when I came out,
I called the college. And the operator
answered the phone. And I said, Marvin Siegel. And she said, Allan? I said yes. Did you have the baby yet? And that’s what the
College of DuPage was like. It was family. [MUSIC PLAYING]
